> How Mili backs up automatically, how to restore a backup, how to export subscriptions and your ledger as JSON or CSV, and how to move your data to a new Mac.

## Automatic backups

Mili backs up automatically when you open it and before your first change each day. Subscriptions, recurring income, and the ledger are backed up separately, and the 14 most recent backups of each are kept. If nothing has changed, no new backup is made.

Backups are stored in Mili’s own folder. To see them, go to Settings > Data and click Show in Finder under Data Files.

## Back up now

Choose File > Back Up Data Now (<kbd>⇧</kbd><kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>B</kbd>), or click Back Up Now in Settings > Data. Starting with Mili 1.0.1, this backs up your subscriptions, ledger, and recurring income together; Mili 1.0 backs up only your subscriptions. Manual backups are never deleted automatically.

## Restore from a backup

Go to Settings > Data:

- **Restore from Backup · Subscriptions**: Each backup shows how many subscriptions it contains and whether it’s an automatic backup, a manual backup, or a restore point. Click Restore, then choose Restore Missing Items Only or Replace All Current Data. Before replacing everything, Mili saves your current data as a restore point, so you can go back if you restore the wrong backup.
- **Restore from Backup · Ledger**: Replace your current ledger with one of your backups.
- **Restore from Backup · Recurring Income** (Mili 1.0.1 and later): Replace your current recurring income with one of your backups. Likewise, Mili saves a restore point first.

Subscriptions, the ledger, and recurring income are restored separately and don’t affect one another.

## Export

- **Subscriptions**: Use Export JSON in Settings > Data.
- **Ledger**: Export Ledger in Settings > Data exports it as JSON. To export the selected year’s entries as a spreadsheet you can open in Numbers or Excel, click Export CSV in Cash Flow.
- **Annual Statement**: Click Export CSV in the Annual Statement.

You don’t need Mili Pro to export your subscriptions or the Annual Statement.

## Import

In Settings > Data, click Import JSON (for subscriptions) or Import Ledger, then choose a JSON file exported from Mili. Records that already exist are skipped automatically, so nothing gets duplicated. Importing CSV files or data from other apps isn’t supported at this time.

## Moving to a new Mac

- **If you use iCloud Sync**: Install Mili on your new Mac and [restore purchases](https://miliapp.app/en/guide/pro/#restore) with the same Apple Account. Your data syncs back automatically.
- **If you don’t use iCloud Sync**: On your old Mac, export your subscriptions and ledger as JSON files, copy them to your new Mac, and import them there.
