# Currencies and exchange rates

> Mili supports 11 currencies. How to set your base currency, where exchange rates come from and how often they update, and how to adjust rates manually.

## Supported currencies

Chinese yuan (CNY), US dollar (USD), euro (EUR), British pound (GBP), Japanese yen (JPY), Hong Kong dollar (HKD), New Taiwan dollar (TWD), South Korean won (KRW), Singapore dollar (SGD), Australian dollar (AUD), and Canadian dollar (CAD).

Each subscription and ledger entry is recorded in the currency you actually paid in, and totals and charts are then converted to your base currency.

## Base currency

Choose Base Currency in Settings > General. The first time you open Mili, it uses your region’s currency if it’s on the list above; otherwise, it defaults to the Chinese yuan. All totals and charts are converted to your base currency.

## Where exchange rates come from

- Mili comes with a built-in set of reference rates, so conversions work even offline.
- When you open Mili, if more than 7 days have passed since rates were last updated online, Mili updates them automatically in the background.
- To update right away, go to Settings > Exchange Rates and click Update Online.
- Rates come from public exchange rate APIs such as open.er-api.com. These requests contain no personal information.

## Adjust rates manually

In Settings > Exchange Rates, you can edit each rate individually. Each row shows how many Chinese yuan one unit of that foreign currency is worth. If things get mixed up, just click Restore Built-in Rates.

> [!NOTE]
> Starting with Mili 1.0.1, rates you’ve edited are tagged Manual, and automatic background updates don’t overwrite them; clicking Update Online replaces all rates with the latest ones. In Mili 1.0, automatic updates overwrite rates you’ve changed manually.
